The creme de la creme of Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State, virtually moved to Oshogbo, the Osun State capital on Saturday, 18th December, 2021, to show solidarity with one of their own.
That day, the paramount ruler of the town, Ataoja of Oshogbo His Royal Majesty, HRM, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, Larooye II, and his council of chiefs honoured Engr. Edward Olatunji Meseko, with a chieftaincy title as Bobakeye of Oshogbo.
The ceremony was part of the events lined up to celebrate the birthday of Olori 2, wife of the Ataoja scheduled for the following day, Sunday, 19th December. It commenced with paying of homage and special goodwill messages for the entire kingdom by various traditional groups and select individuals including Otun Iyalode, Balogun and the Ajagunna.
Explaining how the Osogbo kingdom discovered Meseko from his far away Kogi State ancestry, the revered traditional ruler noted that the awardee was betrayed by his humility and good works. He said his track record of selfless service, charity and hard work recommended him for the honour.
He spoke further on this. “He has been a wonderful support for the palace. He has personally assisted me in the past, even when I did not know him. I experienced his kindness sometime ago, when I travelled to Abuja, with a large entiurage. People have been talking about his philanthropic gestures.
He noted that the palace has not been disappointed in him, thus far and urged him to keep up the good job. He prayed for greater business and political breakthrough for the awardee.
In a remark, Meseko, a hospitality industry player and politician, thanked the palace for finding him worthy of the title. He promised to use the recognition for the growth and development of the kingdom in particular and Nigeria, in general.
The House of Representatives hopeful on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, called on privileged individuals to assist the needy and contribute their qoutar to peace and community service, noting that government cannot solve all problems in society.
The ceremony held at the Ataoja’s Palace and was witnessed by signatories from all works of life. They included former Kogi Assembly members Prince Eric Fiki, Comdr Folusho Daniel, current member Hon. Bello, former Council Vice Chairman Emmanuel Luke, PDP MopAmuro LG Chairman Bola Omoniwa, community leaders, Chief Toyin Akanle, Chief Perry Awe, Engr. Richard Fiki and Elder Godwin Orunmbe. Others were Engr Adewale Aloko, Hon Babatunde Ebiromi, Sunday Kayagba, a former Commissioner in Kogi State, Mrs Bola Amupitan and Hon Lasunkanmi.
