The MTN Foundation has launched third phase Y’ello doctor mobile healthcare intervention to create access to healthcare for ordinary Nigerians without disturbing their economic activities.
MTN Foundation, in partnership with Market Doctor, an healthcare provider in Nigeria, would take six fully equipped mobile clinic trucks to six selected states for free primary healthcare delivery to Nigerians
The beneficiary states for the third phase MTN foundation Y’ello doctor mobile healthcare intervention include Kwara, Lagos, Gombe, Kano, Rivers and Anambra
The chairman, MTN foundation, Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, stated this at the official launch of the third phase of MTN foundation Y’ello doctor mobile healthcare in Lagos on Tuesday.
Adelusi-Adeluyi said that the services available under the intervention include medical consultation, vital checks, rapid diagnostic tests, medications, counseling and referral services.
“MTN foundation started this project in 2014 in six states, one from each geo-political zone.
“We could not do much during Covid, we are happy to launch the third phase today, these trucks will go to another six states including Lagos state.
“The whole idea is based on the philosophy of MTN foundation, Nigerians face a highly impoverished environment, many Nigerians cannot afford or access quality healthcare.
“MTN foundation Y’ello doctor mobile healthcare intervention is something appreciated and needed to meet the needs of this set of people,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Raji Abdulrazaq, Commissioner for Health in Kwara, said that MTN foundation Y’ello doctor mobile healthcare intervention would complement efforts of his state government in taking healthcare delivery to the doorstep of residents.
“This intervention keys into the vision of Kwara State Government, the best way to extend the dividend of democracy to people is through healthcare.
“Kwara State Government is currently carrying out medical outreach throughout the length and breadth of Kwara free of charge, this intervention will complement our effort, “he said.
Prof Akin Abayomi, Commissioner for Health, Lagos State, said the effect of COVID-19 had brought about upgrades to health facilities that were old before COVID-19 outbreak in the state.
The commissioner, who was represented by Dr Ore Finnih –Awokoya, Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State governor on Health, said that the state government realized the role of information dissemination during Covid in order to educate citizens on what they should do and what they should avoid to keep safe.
Awokoya said that Lagos state has riverside areas, slums and remote areas which made public private partnership like MTN foundation Y’ello doctor mobile healthcare intervention a right step in the right direction.
