NIEEE poises to proffer solutions to perennial low power generation capacity

Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE) has decried the perennial issues of low power generation capacity, distribution and transmission in the country.
Mr Richard Adenekan, the Chairman, NIEEE Organising Committee of the Distinguished Electrical and Electronics Engineer Annual Lecture (DEEEAL), made the assertions in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
Adenekan said that the institute was poised to proffer lasting solutions to the issues for the nation’s economic stability and growth.
According to him, toward addressing these challenges, the NIEEE is expected to be a deepdive into the perennial issues of low generation capacity and transmission challenges that we are facing in the country, likewise a touch on the distribution end.
“The institute is expected, through its annual lecture, to proffer solutions to the salient issues identified, thus charting the way forward for the NESI, and the Nigerian nation as a whole,” Adenekan said.
He said that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) had faced various challenges over time.
“How these challenges had been addressed for over 100 years of electricity in Nigeria, is expected to form an important part of the 2021 15th DEEEAL and is a Big Deal for the Institute.
“Currently, in its 15th edition, the DEEEAL Lecturer is selected from among the members of the institute after a rigorous selection process.
“The lecturer, an expert in his field of practice, is provided with a platform by the institute to share his ideas with a wide audience, comprising professional colleagues, captains of industries and key decision makers in government and academia,” Adenekan said.
He said that the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion.
“This year, the responsibility of presenting the 2021 DEEEAL lecture falls on Mr Ifeoluwa Oyedele, the Executive Director (Networks), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).
“Oyedele is expected to X-Ray the NESI in a lecture entitled: “Electrification of Nigeria is a Sine Qua Non to Building a Great Industrialised and Safe Nation,” he said.
The lecture is slated for Nov. 8 at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
