Celebrated artiste, Davido, is proving that his decision to offer N250m to orphanages is not a joke.
This he did no Saturday when he announced the setting up of a five-man committee to handle the donation.
First, he wants to prove that he means business.
Second, he wants to ensure transparency.
Third, he wants things done professionally.
Interestingly, three of the five members are professors.
These are Prof. Jonathan Chinaka Nwosu, Professor Yahana Joel Asabe and Professor Uloma Doris Onuoha.
While Nwosu is of the Faculty of Education is the Registrar, Babcock University, Asabe of the Northern Nigeria Seventh Day Adventist Union Conference. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a major Christian denomination with a significant presence in Nigeria. The Church splits Nigeria into three unions – Northern Nigerian Union Conference, Western Nigeria Union Conference and Eastern Nigerian Union Conference.
Onuoha is a Professor of Library and Information Resources Management. She holds a first degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos, two Masters degrees in Library and Information Science (University of Ibadan, 2006) and Personnel Psychology (Olabisi Onabanjo University, 2003). She obtained a Ph.D. in Information Resources Management from Babcock University in 2012.
Other members of the committee are Mrs Titi Adebayo (Chairman) and Pastor (Dr.) Oyalabu Samuel.
Setting up the committee, Davido noted in a statement, “The committee will compile a list of orphanages across Nigeria. They will determine the number of children and their needs at each orphanage, and then divide the funds accordingly.
“My goal is to do this fundraising every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to people in need. It is my hope that my friends, fans, colleagues in the industry, and the public will continue to support me as I drive this cause.
