Police in Italy arrested some 100 members of the ‘Ndrangheta criminal organisation across the country in coordinated raids, authorities said on Tuesday.
Italian police said in a tweet that the raids took place in Reggio Calabria, Milan, Florence and Livorno.
According to the Police, a ton of cocaine from South America was also seized during raids.
Italian News Agency (ANSA) reported that those arrested are accused of membership in a Mafia organisation, extortion and illegal possession of weapons.
Other crimes include money laundering, drug trafficking, fraudulent bankruptcy, tax fraud and corruption.
The ‘Ndrangheta, based in Calabria in southern Italy, is seen as one of the largest and most powerful crime syndicates in Europe.
It has roots in Calabria and is considered one of the biggest players in the international drug trade.
The Police will give further information about the raids later in the day.
