In a rare show of a sense of responsibility, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has admitted that mistakes were made in the case of the building that collapsed in Ikoyo, Lagos on Monday.
According to him, the tragedy would have been admitted if all the partes involved, including relevant government functionaries, had diligently done their work.
He said this during his second visit to the scene on Wednesday.
About 21 people have died while some 23 are still trapped in the rubble.
Sanwo-Olu said, Sanwo-Olu disclosed during his second visit to the scene of the incident on Wednesday.
He said, “This is an event that one can say that indeed mistakes were made from all angle and this is an event that truly really shouldn’t be happening in modern day city like Lagos state.
“That, I gave instructions to. We would say that we had to take from the head, from the leadership of that agency. Be rest assured that if there are other people that are found in the course of the investigation, everybody will face the full wrath of the law.
“This is an event that may be described as a clear national disaster. This is an event that one can say that indeed mistakes were made from all angles and this is an event that truly really shouldn’t be happening in a modern day city like Lagos State.”
“My deepest condolences to families and loved ones of people that might have been involved in this very unfortunate, tragic, monumental national loss,” Sanwo-Olu added.
He also thanked and commended the rescue team stating, “the gallant first responders and other parties, public and private, involved in the search and rescue mission.”
