Although the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has not spoken on the report by the Lagos State #ENDSARS panel, that soldiers killed protesters in Lekki, President Muhammdu Buhari has reacted to it.
Many are awaiting what Mohammed will say, knowing how persistently he had described as fake news reports that there was a massacre at the Lekki Toll Gate.
Mohammed’s media officer, Segun Adeyemi, said the minister was out of the country.
The Doris-Okuwobi panel noted that what soldiers did was comparable to a masacre.
Reacting on Thursday, however, Buhari said his government would first await the step the state governments would take on the reports before it can do anything.
This is contained in a statement released by the Special Adviser to Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
He said Buhari spoke during a meeting with Antony Blinken, United States Secretary of State, in Abuja, on Thursday, November 18.
“So many state governments are involved, and have given different terms of reference to the probe panels,” he said, according to a statement by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman.
“We at the federal have to wait for the steps taken by the states, and we have to allow the system to work. We can’t impose ideas on them. Federal government has to wait for the reaction of the states,” the statement read.
