Facts have emerged concerning why Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, was not with the other South-West governors who visited the All Progressives Congress leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in his residence on Wednesday.
The governors, led by Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, were in Ikoyi, Lagos home of Tinubu after their meeting that was also earlier attended by Fayemi.
The latter’s absence could easily spark speculations as some believe he is interested in the 2023 Presidency, while Tinubu is also to be eyeing the same, both on the platform of the APC.
But while others would quickly fault such a speculation, recalling that Fayemi even visited Tinubu in London after receiving treatment for his (Tinubu) recent illness, Akeredolu gave reason for Fayemi’s absence in Tunubu’s place as the need to catch a plane to Port Harcourt.
This was made known by the Chief Press Secretary to Akeredolu, Richard OOlatunde, in a statement titled ‘Why Fayemi Was Absent During Our Visit To Asiwaju Tinubu’s Residence – Akeredolu’.
“Governor Fayemi was with us at the Southwest Governors’ Forum meeting held earlier at the Lagos House in Marina. He had to leave to catch a late flight to Portharcourt where he was billed to attend the NBA Conference dinner.
“He sent his apology to Asiwaju as well as his good wishes. The rest of us who visited Asiwaju’s residence tendered the same and extended Fayemi’s good wishes,” the statement quoted the Governor as saying.
