Insecurity in the South-East got worsened on Tunesday as gunmen opened fire on some traditional rulers in a meeting.

The incident that happened in Imo State left three of them dead – although police in the state said they had confirmed only two dead.

Among the monarchs confirmed dead were the Obi 1 of Okwudor autonomous community, Eze E. Anayochukwu Durueburuo and Eze Sampson Osunwa of Ihebineowerre autonomous community.
The region has been witnessing rising violence that is assuming a picture of insurgency.

Whhile the Indigenous People of Biafra has been at the forefront of agitation for Biafra, getting involved in violent clashes in some situations, there is the fear that there are some other clandestine groups unleashing violence on the polity.

The traditional rulers killed on Tuesday were having a stakeholders’ meeting at the Njaba local council headquarters at Nnenasa when the hoodlums struck.

olice spokesperson in the state, Mike Abattam, said two of the traditional rulers had been confirmed dead while the command had commenced investigation into the incident.
