Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, is having a tough time in Benin Republic – his lawyer, Yomi Aliyyu, has said.
According to him, he is critically ill, with the ailment said to have affected his kidney.
Aliyyu said Igboho never had such an ailment befor, and that he just had it in the Cotounu prison where he is being held.
Igboho was arrested by the Beninoise security operatives while trying to fly to Germany.
He had been declared wanted in Nigeria, where he is accused of terrorism.
The Department of State Security had stormed his Ibadan house, where two people were killed and 13 others arrested.
Commenting on his current state, Aliyyu said, “Igboho was not diagnosed with this sickness before he was arrested in Cotonou. It was so critical that they had to rush him to the hospital.
“I can’t tell if he has been returned to the prison from the hospital but what I know is, he’s battling ill health and it seems his kidney and lungs are already being affected.
“Even though I cannot tell which part of his body the sickness has really affected, I know it has to do with his internal organs.”
