A Bauchi-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Women, Child, Education and Health Initiative, has trained 120 women and adolescent girls in various trades, to improve their livelihoods.
Mr Emeka Sylvester, the NGO’s Communication and Knowledge Management specialist told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, on Wednesday, that the participants were trained on processing groundnut, soya beans, and the production of local pasta, detergent, soap, Vaseline making.
According to Sylvester, the participants aged 13 to 40 years, were selected from four communities in Bauchi Local Government Area, including Inkil Kara, Yalwan Tudu, Miri and Guru.
He said that reading, writing and numeracy was also part of the informal learning provided to boost their knowledge of the trade.
”The classes were conducted for nine months after which the organisation will enrol the participants in post literacy classes,” he said.
The specialist further said that learning materials worth N100,000 were donated to the participants, to boost their morale.
He noted that the project was implemented by the NGO with support from Development Exchange Centre, Bauchi, under its small scale project fund.
