Safe Empowerment Foundation, an NGO, has advised Nigerians to go for regular medical check-up to prevent deadly non-communicable diseases in the country.
Miss Latifa Sambo, the Coordinator of the organisation, gave the advice on Friday during a medical outreach at Dobi Community in Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT.
Sambo said regular exercises and medical check-up were important to human, no matter the kind of undertaking or occupation one was engaged in.
According to her, the group organised the outreach to sensitise the public on the need to live a healthy lifestyle due to the high prevalence of sudden death arising from stroke, hypertension and diabetes among others.
She said that the organisation would also screen members of the community for malaria, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and cancer.
“It is good that people do check-up generally, because most of these diseases are preventable if detected early and that is why we are doing this.
“We decided to have an interaction with the community, offer free medical outreach and educate them on how they can also prevent cholera that is rampaging in some parts of FCT.
“They should go for regular medical check-ups, wash their hands, avoid open defecation, improper waste disposal and keep their environment clean and use face masks,” she said.
The coordinator cautioned residents of the area against indiscriminate disposal of waste and open defecation to prevent cholera outbreak in the community.
She said the residents must play a part in keeping their environment clean and flood-free by clearing their drainages and ensure proper waste disposal at the approved dump sites.
Alhaji Ismaila Dagma, the Community Head, thanked the association for the outreach and promised to ensure that the residents adhered to all the health measures and sanitation rules for healthy living.
