One of the children of the Nobel laureates, Professor Wole Soyinka, has refuted a rumour that the old dramatist is dead.
A Twitter account bearing the name of the 2021 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Abdulrazak Gurnah, reported the death.
But, apart from the fact that Soyinka is alive, Gurnah has dissociated himself from the Twitter account, telling Soyinka’s daughter-in-law, Lola Sohoneyin, that he had no Twitter account.
The fake tweet had read, “I got a call from Nigeria. Wole Soyinka died suddenly a few minutes ago. A terrible news.”
The post garnered over 150 retweets and 250 likes in a short while with some expressing their condolences
But Soyinka’s son, Ilemakin, laughed off the rumors.
“The rumour has been going round since last week. Soyinka is alive when last I checked,” he said to THECableNg.
