A Kaduna Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday remanded a 25-year-old mechanic, Haruna Ahmed, in a correctional centre for allegedly robbing a lady of her phones and other valuables worth N196,000.
Ahmed, who resides at Badarawa Bus Stop area in Kaduna, is standing trial for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take the plea of the suspect.
Emmanuel directed the prosecutor to send the case file to the Kaduna State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case until Oct. 27 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that Esther Moses, who lives in Ungwan Rimi area, Kaduna, reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station on Sept. 29.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant conspired with two others, now at large, and robbed the complainant, who was on her way from a church.
Leo said the defendant and his accomplices, who were armed with knives, allegedly attacked the complainant and robbed her of two tecno phones valued at N156,000, a Del laptop worh N120,000 and a cash sum of N20,000.
He alleged that during the attack, the complainant sustained injuries on her hand and was referred to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna for treatment.
Leo said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 59 and 283(1) (2) (b) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
