A Bauchi based NGO, Ikra Foundation for Women and Youth Developmemt (IFWYD), says its has begun the training of 140 girls on internet and digital skills to achieve career potentials in the state.
its Executive Director, Mrs Amina Garuba, stated this at the inauguration of the training exercise on Thursday in Bauchi.
Garuba said that the beneficiaries including persons with disabilities were selected from eight schools in Bauchi metropolis, as part of activities to mark the 2021 International Day of the Girl Child.
She said that the exercise facilitated by women professionals is designed to exposed and ginger the girls, to enable them to explore internet facilities to achieve their potentials.
“The sensitisation focuses on career and internet to be facilitated by women in various professions.
“The professionals will speak on their fields and the use of internet for positive outcomes as regards to their practice,” she said.
According to her, the aim is to educate the girls on becoming digitally inclined.
In her remarks, Dr Rukaiya Daudu, an official of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hopsital (ATBUTH), enjoined the girls to use what they would learnt to achieve academic excellence.
She said that internet facilities provided mopportunities for students to be educated through online learning materials.
Also speaking, Mrs Bilkisu Sani, a representative of the state Ministry of Education, lauded the initiative and admonished the participants to put to the use the lesson learnt during the exercise.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the proffessionals were drawn from women lawyers, journalists, doctors, architects, teachers, computer scientists, among others.
