Malaysia’s corruption convict ex-premier, Najib Razak has been granted the return of his passport to travel to Singapore for the expected grand child birth next month.
According to state news agency Bernama, the Court of Appeal on Monday ruled as reasonable Najib’s request that he be permitted to make the journey in spite of facing four corruption trials and after last year being sentenced to 12 years in jail at the end of another.
Najib, who remains free on appeal, is to fly the short distance from Kuala Lumpur to the neighbouring city-state early next month, where pandemic rules mean he faces a 10-day quarantine.
The trip will be Najib’s first outside the country since his nine years as prime minister came to an end with a shock election loss in May 2018, after which police stopped him from trying to flee abroad.
