The United States of America has lost another prominent person to COVID-19: former Secretary of States Collin Powell.
This was despite the fact that he was fully vaccinated.
Powell was 84.
His family announced the passage in a Facebook post thus: “General Colin L. Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid 19.
“We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather and a great American.
“We want to thank the medical staff… for their caring treatment.”
Powell was a former top military officer who rose to become the first African-American secretary of state in 2001 under former US president, George W Bush.
