Actor Chiwematalu Agu stepped out in a new dress on Tuesday as he walked out of the grip of the Department of State Security.
He was released on the basis of the intervention of the Actors Guild of Nigeria – according to a statement by it.
Agu was first arrested by the Nigerian Army, and later detained by the DSS over the dress he wore, which the authorities linked to the secessionist Biafra.
Although he explained the branding of his attire as not having anything to do with Biafra or IPOB, one showing sign of a rising sun, it seems part of the deal for his release is to ease his body from the controversial outfit.
In a photo showing him and the AGN official as he was released, he spots a trendy T-shirt on a pair of innocent trousers, posing like a young boy.
Whether or not he will return to the controversial dress is what time will tell.
Speaking on the AGN’s feat at securing Agu’s release, the guild said in a statement signed by the AGN Communication Director, Monalisa Chinda, “The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ejezie Emeka Rollas, has yet again secured the release of Actor Chiwetalu Agu from the custody of the DSS.
“On behalf of the Guild, I was at the DSS office with my colleague, the Senior Special Assistant on Military Affairs and Inter Governmental Relations to the President, Steve Eboh, to receive Mr. Agu today.
“The elated veteran actor thanked God for surviving the ordeal and commended the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria headed by Ejezie Emeka Rollas for their relentless efforts in securing his release from the detention.”
