Nasarawa Assembly promises peace,unity through legislations

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has promised to promote peace and unity through its legislations.

The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, stated this when a group,” Global Peace Development” visited the House on Tuesday in Lafia , as part of activities to commemorate the International Day of Peace.

The speaker, represented by Mr Mohammed Omadefu, Chairman, House Committee on Information, said that the importance of peace to human and societal development could not be overemphasised.

“There is, therefore, the need for the assembly’s continued readiness to promote peace at all times.

” We, the members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, are doing our best in promoting peace in the state.

” We had initiated bills and passed several resolutions that had enhanced peace across the state.

” We will continue to maintain and sustain peace through legislative instruments, considering the importance of peace to societal development ; as peace is priceless and non-negotiable .

“It is the necessary requirement for the development of every society,” he said.

He said that the House would continue to synergise with the executive arm in the area of promoting peace for development to thrive in the state.

Abdullahi also noted that the State Youth Development Commission Bill, which he said was before the house, had passed the second reading.

He said that it would soon be passed into law.

Earlier, Mr Ebruke Esike, the Executive Director of Global Peace Development, solicited the speedy passage of the bill for a Law to establish the Nasarawa State Youth Development Commision.

” The bill had passed the second reading under your leadership and watch since 2020.

“Let us arm our youths with education, skills and structures to support their goals and see that Nasarawa State flourishes beyond our expectations.

” This is devoid of radicalisation, violent extremism but it is about imbibing the culture of peace,” he said.

Esike said that the commission had trained and provided start-up kits for 750 youths in different skills of their choices.

” They ranged from tailoring, phone repairs, hair dressing, shoe to bag making ,” he said.

The executive director commended the House for its doggedness in championing the cause of youths in the state.
