More trouble for Zamfara residents as FG reportedly orders shutdown of telecom services over insecurity

Zamfara State may go into a state of relative incommunicado for the next two weeks as the Federal Government has reportedly ordered a shutdown of telecom services for the period.

This may mean restricted access to communication by all and sundry in the state.

The drastic measure, it was gathered is part of what the military and govern,ent is taking to halt insurgency, banditry and aother criminality in the area.

Already, the state has been made a no-fly zone.

The latest order was said to have been issued by the Nigerian Telecommunications Commission.

A leaked memo to the telecoms companies, signed by the NCC’s Executive Secretary, Prof, Umar Dambatta, says:

“The pervading security situation in Zamfara state has necessitated an immediate shut down of all telecommunications services in the state from today September 03, 2021.

“This is to enable relevant security agencies to carry out required activities towards addressing the security agencies carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenge in the state.

“This site shutdown is for two (2) weeks (September 03-17,2021) in the first instance. Your urgent action in this regard is required.”
