The Ekiti State Police Command says it is on red over the possible movement of the 240 prisoners who escaped from a Kogi correctional centre following an attack by bandits.
The bandits had killed two soldiers and another officer, among the havoc they wreaked.
As there are indications that the prsioners, many of them condemnded criminals, are fleeing to neighbouring states, police in Ekiti said there was no cause for panic.
‘The Nation’ quotes Police spokesman, Sunday Abutu, as saying that policemen had been placed on the alert to apprehend the fleeing inmates.

According to Abutu, operatives and undercover intelligence personnel had been deployed in all boundary communities.
He said: “We are working in collaboration with our counterparts in Kogi to ensure the arrest of the fleeing inmate. Our men are already in the towns that share a boundary with Kogi, Ondo, and Kwara states.
“Security at the border towns has been beefed up and surveillance intensified to prevent the inmates from seeking refuge in Ekiti.”
