Dr Chioma Ezenyimulu, Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), has urged Awka residents to continue to observe COVID-19 protocols, to remain safe.
Ezenyimulu, also urged them to take advantage of another round of COVID-19 vaccination , which would commence on Aug. 17, to ensure the state was free of the virus.
She made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Awka.
She said it was very imperative that the public took precautionary measures, as the virus was still taking lives.
Ezenyimulu encouraged communities to build health centres as a way to arrest the spread of the virus and other killer diseases.
She disclosed that the agency, recently commissioned and handed over Agulu-Awka Primary Healthcare Centre, Umuogbu Village in Awka.
“ The commissioning attracted women, men and youths and the agency ceased the opportunity to enlighten them on the need to observe COVID-19 safety measures.
“The health facility was built by Ulonese, Agulu-Awka Committee and facilitated by a one time presidential adviser, High Chief Ben Obi,” she said.
She commended the community and Obi for the action, which she described as a life-saving project for both the old and younger generation.
“The health centre houses injection and dressing room, labour and delivery room, postnatal ward, theatre, doctors and laboratory offices.
“It also has male and female wards, pharmacy and outpatient department among others. The move is worth emulating,” she said.
The ASPHCDA executive secretary, said the dearth of some primary healthcare centers in the country, made it difficult to treat some illnesses that could be treated at the primary level.
She said that Anambra government was determined to improve the agency, to ensure that primary illnesses received due attention at the centres.
Ezenyimulu commended the communities that made their land available and the government, for helping to realise the dream of having health centres in many communities in the state.
She urged the people to use the health facility to ensure healthy living in their various domain and continue to sensitise the public on the need to take ownership of health facilities in their areas.
