Coronavirus is getting more stubborn as it is proving that it can defy vaccination.
This is evident in the case of a veteran highlife singer, Mike Okri, who has contracted it despite the fact that he has been fully vaccinated against it.
Three US senators have also been reported to have contracted the pandemic even after vaccination.
Okri’s own, however, happened in Nigeria, to which he returned after spending many years abroad.
He said he felt “devastated” and “funny” and had gone into self-isolation at home for 10 or 14 days.
Announcing his health status on Saturday in a Facebook Live video, Okri said: “Hey folks, this is coming to me as a rude shock. I had my Covid test on Friday, hoping to fly today, Saturday and it turned out it was positive.
“I’m so devastated, which means that I can’t travel for another 10 to 14 days. As I’m speaking now, I’m self-quarantined.
“I just want to tell folks that yes, for those doubting Thomases, that the damn thing is real.
“I’m feeling funny; even though I had my vaccines, double shots, I’m still almost like, hmm, that doesn’t mean that you’re immune.
“So, folks, there are a lot of people walking around with it, but they don’t even know.”
The Delta variant of the disease has entered Nigeria, proving devastating with the killing of several people.
On Saturday alone, the country lost 13 people to the disease, with some 10 dead from it the previous day.
