The Department of State Securities has responded to reports that two presenters of the Channels Television, Chamberlain Usoh and Kayode Okikiolu, were arrested by his men.
The duo were said to have been invited after they interviewed a retired naval officer, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, who alleged that there were Boko Haram sponsors known to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom’s claim in another interview was also alleged to have been problematic.
He also said there was an agenda to Islamize Nigeria.
Reacting, however, the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, noted on Thursday that the reports were false.
He said in a WhatsApp statement: ”No Channels TV presenters were arrested by the DSS as falsely reported in sections of the Media. Fake news peddlers should shun the act.”
He later added in another statement: “The attention of the DSS has been drawn to news making the rounds in some sections of the media that its operatives earlier today (26th August, 2021) arrested two (2) journalists of Channels Television. This is false and misleading. Fake news peddlers should shun the act.”
