A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered that a 36-year-old unemployed man, James Austin, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Austin, who resides at Barnawa Kaduna State, is charged with defilement.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who did not take Austin’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in a correctional centre.
Emmanuel directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 8 for DPP advice.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that Austin committed the offence on Aug. 5
Leo said that Austin defiled the minor in an uncompleted building.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Penal Law of Kaduna State, 2017.
