No fewer than nine pupils were crushed to death on Thursday when a tanker ran into them.
They were pupils of Army Children Primary School, Effunrun, Uvwie, who were returning home alongside their s mates.
Delta Police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, gave the number of the dead as six.
He, however, said the number is “tentative”.
Some other pupils were said to have been rushed to the hospital as they were injured in the crash.
It was gathered 12 pupils were rushed to the Central Hospital, Warri from which nine were confirmed dead on arrival.
Reports add that a combined team of the Nigerian Army, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security agencies made efforts to recover other pupils believed to be trapped under the tanker.
Firefighters were equally drafted to the scene to prevent fire outbreak.
He added the whereabouts of the driver were not known.
