A Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has sentenced a 30-year-old man, Ephraim Ayuba, to two months in a correctional facility for stealing cassava.

Ayuba was charged by the police with criminal trespass and theft, contrary to sections 327 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The Magistrate, Michael Bawa, sentenced the convict to one month imprisonment for the first charge and two months for the second charge.

Bawa ordered that the terms should run concurrently.

Police Prosecutor, Insp. Isah Hassan told the court that the complainant, Abdullahi Ali, reported the case on July 15 at the Jagindi Police Station, Kafanchan.

Hassan stated that the defendant stole some cassava valued at N100,000 from the complainant’s farm in Jagindi.

When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

The prosecutor urged the court to try the defendant summarily in line with Section 125 (8) of the Criminal Justice Law of Kaduna State.
