Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has lamented that more Nigerian youths are renouncing their citizenship.
The development may not surprise observers based on the existential challenges that youths and other categories of the polity are facing.
Millions of Nigerian youths remain jobless while their parents and other would-be supporters are handicapped socio-economically.
This is as inflation continues to soar, with indications that things could get worse with the imminent hike in petrol price.
Noting that the spate at which the youths were renouncing their citizenship was worrying, Aregbesola appealed to them to stop the trend, promising that the government would take steps to renew their hope in their fatherland.
He spoke at the Ministerial Alignment Meeting of the Presidential Task Force on Deliverables for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of Government, where he was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Shuaib Belgore.
As part of the renewal scheme, he said a committee would be set up in the Ministry with stakeholders to oversee the operations and implementation of the deliverables.
He announced that the committee would be chaired by the Director, Planning Research and Statistics (PRS) in the Ministry, Mr. Kabiru Ayuba, with representatives of the four Services under the Ministry and other relevant officers.
