French President, Macron, has received a shock treatment from a man who slapped him in the face in public.
The incident may redefine how public figures like him try to relate with the public as the incident happened while he was greeting some residents, shaking hands with him.
BFM TV and RMC radio reported that it happened in a crowd in Tain-l’Hermitage.
The video circulating on Twitter shows the chap in a green T-shirt and glasses shout “Down with Macronia” in French before slapping Macron’s face.
As ‘Independent.co.uk.’ also reported, security for Macron quickly tackled the man to the ground, and moved the president away to safety.
It quoted French Prime Minister Jean Castex as calling the incident an affront to democracy. Shortly after the incident, he told the National Assembly that while democracy meant debate and legitimate disagreement, “it must never in any case mean violence, verbal aggression and physical attack”.
