Yobe Government spent N4.1 billion to construct, rehabilitate and upgrade
70 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), the Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammed Gana, said.
He made this known at the Ministerial Briefing organised by Nigeria Union of Journalists in Damaturu on Wednesday.
Gana said the Ministry of Health also spent N7.9 million to furnish and equip the PHCs, as well as
provided accommodation and renovated the multi purpose store at Primary Healthcare Management Board Headquarters in Damaturu.
He listed other ongoing projects to include the rehabilitation of doctors’ quarters in Damaturu, construction of staff accommodation at General Hospital Jakusko and the Specialists Hospital in Gashua.
The commissioner also highlighted some government achievements at Secondary Healthcare level, saying the ministry spent N72.9 million to remodel the Special Baby Care Unit (SBCU) at General Hospital Damaturu, spent N24 million to procure basic laboratory equipment to the clinic at Yobe Government House.
The commissioner also noted that the ministry procured ICU medical equipment at the Specialist Hospital Damaturu at the sum of N20.8 million and supplied equipment at the newly constructed Neonatal unit at the Specialist Hospital Gashua and Potiskum.
At the tertiary healthcare level, Gana said the ministry constructed a 200-bed capacity isolation centre at Yobe State University at N198 million, as well as 20-bed isolation centres in Potiskum, Gashua and Geidam at the sum of N60.2 million.
An ongoing 30-room self-contained apartment at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital at the cost of N129.2 million and procurement of 500o-litre sewage disposal truck at N35.9 million, among others.
The commissioner appreciated Gov. Mai-Mala Buni “for his support and encouragement to the ministry.”
