Mrs Fatu Attahiru who is the wife of the late Chief of Army Staff appeared at the National Mosque for Her Husband’s burial in Abuja on Saturday.
The sad event occurred following an air crash in Kaduna which also claimed the lives of 10 other officers including the crew.
Her appearance, bitter as it was based on the fact that she has lost her husband while the country has also lost its military head among other officers, had an element of sweetness as she was initially rumoured to be on the ill-fated flight.
Her appearance had thus finally doused the added tension the early reports bore.
The COAS was enroute Kaduna from Abuja on Friday, 21 May, 2021 when the unfortunate incident happened.
May the souls of the fallen heroes rest in perfect peace.
Meanwhile, the military has cancelled the event the deceased officers and crew were billed to attend.
There was supposed to be an 80th passing out parade of the Depot Nigeria Army,Zaria which the former Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Ibrahim Attahiru was suppose to attend has been cancelled following his death.
Attahiru was billed to be the Reviewing Officer at the PoP in Zaria on Saturday.
But he and 10 others died when their place e crashed on Friday at the Kaduna International Airport.
“The COAS was to arrive in Kaduna on Friday and sleep over at his guest house. He was then expected to pay homage to the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali on Saturday before proceeding to the depot for the PoP,” a source said.
However, a source within the depot who pleaded anonymity said, “Everything has been put on hold till the remains of the deceased are laid to rest.”
