Insecurity: NIHOTOUR boss closes zonal campus

Alhaji Naru Kangiwa, Director-General, National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), has ordered immediate closure of Bagauda zonal campus of the institute in Kano state, due to security threat.

Kangiwa gave the order in a statement by the Institute Director, Media and Publicity Relation, Ahmed Sule, in Abuja on Wednesday.

“Following directive of the Kano State Government to close Government Technical College, Bagauda, a close proximity to the NIHOTOUR zonal campus on security ground, the closure of the campus becomes imperative.

`This is in view of security reports that put the Bagauda axis on security danger list of possible attack by insurgents,” he said.

According to him, the directive further ordered students to vacate the premises of the campus for their safety.

He said that members of staff of the institute were also asked to stay off the campus in the interest of protection of lives of the students, staff and all community associates.

“However, the mini campus of the institute located at the Civic Centre Road in the Kano metropolis, where the IATA course programmes are offered will remain operational.

“Therefore, staff and students of the mini campus are to go on with their normal academic activities unhindered,” he noted.

The NIHOTOUR boss said he was unhappy over decision to close the Bagauda campus but it was necessary, ‘`because we have the responsibility to protect the lives of our staff and students.
