It is a sad end of the ‘party’ for American hip hop star, DMX, with the full name, Earl Simmons.
In the past few decades it had been a big success party for him, as symbolised by his hit song, ‘Party Up’.
His life outside music has also, practically speaking, been a party of the good, the bad and what can arguably be termed the ugly, as exemplified by his being sentenced for fraud.
But what his fans globally remember and mourn him for is his vibrant music that excited the scene for years.
He passed on at 50 after going into cardiac arrest earlier this month and being admitted to White Plains Hospital in New York City.
His family announced in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days.
“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him.
“Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.
“We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.
“Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalised.
“White Plains Hospital extends its deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Simmons, as well as his friends and legions of fans who expressed their unwavering support during this difficult time. Earl Simmons passed away peacefully with family present after suffering a catastrophic cardiac arrest.”
Among other efforts, his 1998 album, ‘It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot’ in 1998, becoming a critical and commercial success. In 1999, DMX released his most successful album. And Then There Was X, which also boasted his hit single Party Up (Up in Here).
His profile also indicates that, in addition to a memoir released in 2003, DMX also starred in his own reality series DMX: Soul Of A Man in 2006.
Since rising to fame, Simmons had faced multiple arrests including for drug possession, reckless driving, and legal issues surrounding child support.
