A Grade I Upper Area Court in Zuba, FCT, on Tuesday sentenced two security guards to three months imprisonment each for stealing 14 bags of corn.
The judge, Mr Gambo Garba, sentenced Augustine Paul, 45 and Gambo Gyanaye, 35 after they pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy and theft and pleaded for leniency.
The judge gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of N10,000 each and warned them to desist from committing crime.
The judge ordered the convicts to return seven bags of corn each to the complainant.
The First Information Report (FIR) stated that the complainant, Adeka Isaiah of Tungamaje layout Area of Zuba, Abuja, reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station on Jan. 25.
The prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the convicts were employed as security guards to secure the complainant’s property.
Ogada said that instead of the convicts broke into his storeroom and stole bags of corn worth N430, 000.
He said that during police investigation and interrogation the convicts admitted committing the offence.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 289 of the Penal Code.
