A 30-year-old man, Jemilu Lawal, on Friday appeared before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly parading himself as an army officer.
Lawal, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on impersonation and possession of a dangerous weapon.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Adewale Sodiq, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 11 at 11.00 p.m. at Stadium Bus/Stop, Surulere, Lagos.
Sodiq alleged that the defendant paraded himself in an army camouflage T-shirt and also had in his possession a sharp knife in public without lawful authority.
He said that the offence contravened sections 51, 77 (a) (b) and 78 (B) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Otitoju, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Otitoju ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until April 22 for mention.
