Mr Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Saturday inaugurated the 18.5 kilometre Hong – Garaha road in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the road was constructed by the Ecological Fund Office.
The inauguration ceremony took place in Hong town, the headquaters of Hong Local Government Area.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration, Mustapha said the project was among the 18 ecological intervention projects approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for the first quarter of 2018.
” The importance of this project to the communities cannot be over emphasised as it is expected to address the devastating effects of erosion and flood menace in the communities.
” The completion of the project underscored the Federal Government’s concerted effort and sincerity of purpose in tackling problems of its citizens.
” I have no doubt in my mind that this Federal Government intervention will bring a huge relief generally to the communities that have for a very long time suffered the problems of these ecological challenges.” Mustapha said.
He appreciated the ecological fund for the intervention.
In her remarks, Dr Habiba Lawal, Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, said the project was initiated through a request for an urgent intervention forwarded to the fund by the SGF.
Lawal noted that the timely completion of this project was made possible through the efforts of the project contractor.
” The commissioning and handing over of the project to the communities are expected to achieve the dual purpose of enabling the host communities to take over and exercise ownership , as well as maintenance and sustainability, ” Lawal said.
The road project was awarded in 2019 and completed in 2020.
