An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, ordered that a 28-year-old man, Adesola Adesanya, 28, who admitted that he refused to pay N33,000 for two bottles of wine, be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
Magistrate Mr J.A. Adegun gave the order after Adesanya pleaded guilty to breach of peace and cheating.
Adegun adjourned the case until March 10 for review of the facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, ASP Benson Emuerhi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 15 at 11 p.m. at the Akima Hotel, Boladale St., Oshodi, Lagos.
Emuerhi said that the defendant ordered for two bottles of Campari wine, four bottles of soft drinks and two packs of cigarette, worth N33,000 and refused to pay.
He said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace when he refused to pay his bill.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 168 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
