Happy birthday to Seun Kuti

Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti (born 11 January, 1983), commonly known as Seun Kuti, is a singer and the youngest son of famous afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti.

Seun leads his father’s former band Egypt 80.

Celebrating his birthday, he shared a photo on Instagram and wrote:

“Happy bday to me! Born on this day 1983. Life is all about the people we meet along the way that help us become better. Today is my birthday but I’m gonna write a little message to my own special gift @chefyeide. Today might be my birthday but I will celebrate you, the glue that makes the broken China anew. She dey the trenches with the troops to empower the group. The main pepper inside this soup! She grab my thoughts and lift my spirits and a little girl to remind me that the work can never finish. Thanks for being ‘ a Gift ‘ #getthesax. #8338”

Seun became interested in music at five years old, by nine he was playing with his father’s band Egypt 80.

In 2008, the band released album called Many Things. this was the first album released under the moniker Sean Kuti & Egypt 80.

He is featured in Calle 13’s song “Todo se mueve” (Everything Moves), on their 2010 album Entren los que quieran.

In 2014, Seun Kuti was given an honorary invitation to perform live for the first time at the Industry Nite.

In 2019, Kuti was a featured guest on 85 to Africa; the second album by American rapper Jidenna. In June, Kuti was featured in the Visual Collaborative electronic catalogue, under the Polaris series, he was interviewed on Pan-African awareness, his country and music.
