Olatunde Agbato: As Animal Care President goes home

Nigeria has lost a highly impactful businessman, Dr Olatunde Agbato, President of integrated and expansive agro company, Animal Care Services Konsult.

He passed on on Thursday, January 7, 2021.

Dr Agbato was 70.

Born in Ogere Remo, Ogun State, on August 4, 1950, Dr Olatunde Ayedun Agbato attended Wesley School, in the town by the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, for his primary education; Ijebu Ode Grammar School for his secondary, and the University of Ibadan where he graduated with distinctions in 1975 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).

He bagged the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the university over a year ago.

He later proceeded to the University of Lagos where he also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1978.

According to a profile, he began his illustrious career with a brief stint as a Lecturer at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, before going on to become the Technical Commercial Manager of SEEPC Ltd; a French Agro-Allied Industrial concern which later became one of the forebears of AMO BYNG Company LTD.

In 1979, Agbato started O.A & O.A Associates with his amiable wife Olufunmilayo Agbato, who is a poultry technologist.

The company was later incorporated as ANIMAL CARE SERVICES KONSULT (NIG) LTD in 1981.

Close followers of celebrated musician, Segun Akinlolu, aka Beautyful Nubia, will recall that he used to work with the farm before going into music fully.

The company has been a big employer of labour while it has also been strong in social responsibilities.

Agbato was the founding President/CEO of Animal Care Services Konsult (Nig.) Ltd, while his wife has been the Executive Director and later the Executive Vice President, jointly nurturing a dream and a drive which has grown into becoming giants in the livestock sector in Nigeria and across the globe with interests in commercial egg production, commercial feed-milling, vitamins and Minerals production, Production and Procurement of Veterinary Medicaments and vaccines.
He was also a Fellow, Farm Management Association of Nigeria.

Dr Agbato served as a two-term Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Ogun Chapter and it was during his tenure that the Nigeria Poultry Show, Abeokuta, the first international Poultry Exposition in Nigeria, was started.

In recent years, he had been working to deepen efforts in the deployment of latest relevant cost “saving and performance-enhancing technologies to the Nigerian livestock industry.
