An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo, on Friday, sentenced two men to two years imprisonment with hard labour for breaking into four shops and stealing goods worth over N300, 000.
Paul James, 29, and Waheed Moshood, 25, who have no fixed address, were convicted on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The Magistrate, Mr Dehinde Dipeolu, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the two men were guilty as charged.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the duo committed the offences in November 2020, at Idi-Ori in Abeokuta.
He said the two men burgled four shops belonging to Messrs Lukeman Shobayo, Abiola Odunayo, Tope Oladipupo and Idowu Olusegun, adding that they stole items worth N348, 056.
According to the prosecutor, James and Moshood, on Nov. 16, 2020, broke the padlocks of shops of Shobayo and Odunayo and stole their goods.
He said that they stole a 6.0kg gas cylinder, 23 different body creams, 20 pairs of sandals, bags of Semovita, wheat, rice and garri, and other provisions, all worth N219, 560.
The prosecutor added that the duo broke into the shops of Oladipupo and Idowu on Nov. 23, 2020, by breaking the shops’ padlocks to gain entrance.
He said that they stole provisions and recharge cards of different telephone networks, all worth N128, 496.
He noted that the offences contravened Sections 516, 414, 360(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
