Tunisia on Saturday celebrated the 68th anniversary of the assassination of the famous trade union leader and nationalist, Farhat Hached, killed on 5 December, 1952, by the colonialist organization, the Red Hand.
Hached has been a symbol of the workers’ struggle in the world. He is the founder of the first trade union organization in the Arab world and in Africa, namely the General Tunisian Labor Union, formed in 1946 which contributed to the liberation of the country.
The perpetrators of this political crime still go unpunished and a thick mystery still hangs over its real sponsors, although Antoine Miller, member of the organization Red Hand recognised in the organisation was responsible.
Tunisians remains grateful to Hached who led the national struggle at a time when political leaders were in exile and paid a heavy price for it.
Tunisian President Kais Saeid presided over a ceremony on Saturday to commemorate the assassination of the union leader.
