There are indications that government and other stakeholders still have a war of doubts to fight as far as the battle against coronavirus is concerned.
The second wave of the pandemic has been harsh, with the Nigerian Medical Association announcing on Friday that it had consumed 20 doctors within a week.
The Chairman of the Abuja chapter of the NMA, Enema Amodu, confirmed this.
Reactions to this have, however, been varied.
While many people are feeling agitated that the resurgence is real, others are alleging that the authorities are cooking up the figures to instil fear in Nigerians.
This is the shape of the comments greeting the NMA’s declaration.
President Muhammadu Buhari has, however, mourned the departed health workers.
According to a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, they had paid a supreme sacrifice that should be acknowledged.
He said:
“Our health workers are making maximum sacrifices for the country in line with their humanitarian calling, and this administration will leave no stone unturned in order to ensure their needs are met.
“Our health workers are operating under severe limitations, but they are undeterred in discharging their duties in saving lives.
“Let me say without any fear of contradiction that no reward is too much for the sacrifices of our health workers in the country, and this administration will give their welfare the priority it deserves.”
