About two days after the Nigerian Medical Association said it had lost 20 doctors to coronavirus within a week, health authorities in Abuja have said that no fewer than 22 COVID-19 patents were on oxygen in the federal capital.
Team Lead at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Dr Yinusa Thairu, said this on Sunday, adding that there were 86 patients of the pandemic at various treatment centres in Abuja.
The figure is likely to generate more fears about the resurgent, which is said to be harder than what the country first experienced.
Prominent people, including a former Minister of State for Education, Jerry Agada, in the past few days.
Also, there is fear that the figure of the patients and those on the critical list might be higher in a place like Lagos, which remains the epicentre.
Thairu stressed: “We have severe and critical cases coming in and the need for oxygenation cannot be over-emphasised. As of today, 22 of the patients are on oxygen.”
