Pakistan has established its first-ever robotic COVID-19 testing laboratory which will greatly enhance the testing capacity and effectively battle against the second wave of the pandemic, an official said.
The Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Ansar Maqsood, said this on Friday in Islamabad.
The state-of-the-art laboratory is capable of conducting more than 2,000 COVID-19 tests per day at a low cost with a minimum staff of around five to six people, Maqsood said.
Maqsood added that as the government has been taking extensive measures to curb the spread of the infection, people should also follow standard operating procedures to stop the second wave of COVID-19.
The laboratory has been established in collaboration with Britain, according to local media reports.
Meanwhile, Pakistan recorded 2,304 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 352,296, the health ministry said on Friday.
A total of 37 more patients died due to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 7,092, and 321,563 people have recovered, it said.
