A Kano State-based young man, Anas Saidu, has urged the state government to execute him by hanging.
He is a suspected kidnapper and suspected killer of a boy, Tijjani Saidu, but rather than wait for any court pronouncement, he is asking for outright killing.
The police paraded him in Kano on Friday, after the victim’s body was exhumed as part of investigation.
The 26-year-old had led a team of police detectives and medical personnel to a farm located at Kauyen Hayin Gwarmai at Kwanar Dangora of Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano where he buried the body of the 16-year-old boy.
The suspect said, “This is my first and not my habit. I’m pleading to Kano state government for public execution and death sentence by hanging and please I seek the forgiveness of the victim’s father and people should help me do so as well. I know the victim’s father, he lives in our area. I demanded N1.3m but nothing was given to me.”
Terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other crimes are spreading across the country, with the North experiencing the most traumatic.
The situation is so bad that many people have questioned President Muhammadu Buhari’s competence in tacking the crimes, while others say he should change the service chiefs and the entire security architecture.
Only on Thursday, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, lamented that the North was now at the mercy of bandits and other negative elements.
According to him, bandits operate openly to the extent that they go to markets undisguised, buy things and collect change.
Confirming the Kano incident, Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said that November 9, the victim’s father, Alhaji Kabiru reported that kidnappers abducted his son and demanded N1.3m and 20,000 worth of MTN airtime.
Kiyawa added, “After two weeks of investigation as ordered by the state commissioner of police, the accused was arrested and led us to here where he buried him. The police are here with medical team to exhume her body for medical examination and handing over to the family for proper burial..:
