The Forum of Presidential Candidates in 2019 has commended the Federal Government’s N75 billion National Youth Investment Fund.
The spokesman of the forum, Danjuma Muhammad, gave the commendation at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja
He said that the fund which had received over one million applications confirmed the forum’s position that President Muhammadu Buhari was the most determined and consistent in the effort to create employment and alleviate poverty in Nigeria.
Muhammad also commended rail and roads projects embarked upon by the present administration, saying Buhari’s achievement in the railway transportation is novel in the history of Nigeria.
Muhammad commended the construction of major road projects such as the second Niger bridge in Anambra and rehabilitation of Lagos – Ibadan expressway in spite of fall in oil price and the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that those who hijacked the EndSARS protests to call for a regime change in Nigeria were agents of doom who ran the country down when they had the opportunities to make it great.
He expressed surprise by the manner in which the EndSARS protests suddenly turned to violence.
He called on government to institute a thorough investigation into all cases of violence and police brutality in the country, particularly during the EndSARS protests.
Muhammad called on the youth to henceforth desist from any action or activity that would further lead to a repeat of the violence and lootings that greeted the #EndSARS protests across Nigeria.
He expressed condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in the EndSARS protests.
Muhammad disclosed that the forum had decided to embark on a nationwide tour for peace and unity in the country.
“We, therefore, call on Nigerians, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, creed and political affiliations to give peace a chance and support the government of Buhari.”
