As a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected Burundi’s request to allow spectators at its inter-club matches, the Burundi Football Federation (FFB) was told on Thursday.
The request to open the continental competitions to the public was made at a time when two Burundian clubs are preparing for the qualifiers for the CAF Confederation Cup and the Champions League.
Next Saturday, Musongati FC welcomes Green Eagle FC of Zambia at the Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura for the preliminary round of the CAF Cup 2020-2021.
For its part, Le Messager FC welcomes Young Buffaloes d’Eswatini, on December 6, as part of the CAF Champions League.
During Day 4 of qualifiers for the next African Cup of Nations (AFCON) between Burundi and Mauritania, CAF had demanded not to exceed half of the 10,000 seats available in the stands of the stadium in Bujumbura.
