Former Ghanaian leader, Jerry Rawlings is dead.
He passed on at the age of 73 due to coronavirus complications, with ‘Ovation’ Publisher, Dele Momodu, announcing the passage this afternoon:
“The saddest news of this year. My God. Former President Jerry John Rawlings of Ghana has passed on. I’m completely devastated. Good night, an African hero.”
While Rawlings first became the head of state via a military coup, he later ruled as a civilian president from 1981 to 2001.
He was an eventful corruption fighter whose regime killed top shots found guilty of sleaze.
Many believe that the relative stability that Ghana has been enjoying is as a result of the tough moves he made.
