The Federal Government says about 200 poor and vulnerable women in Bauchi state are to benefit from its empowerment programme called ”One -Off Grant”.
Sadiya Farouk, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development made this known in Bauchi on Thursday while presenting cash to some beneficiaries of the Programme.
Farouk said that each of the beneficiaries would receive N20,000 across 16 selected Local Government Areas, and that government would expand the scope of the programme to accommodate more people.
She said that the programme was aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of the beneficiaries, especially vulnerable women.
The minister further said the scheme was one of the component of the Social Investment Programme, which targetted no fewer than 150,000 vulnerable rural women.
According to her, the programme is expected to increase access to financial capital required for economic activities,and ensure financial independence among rural women.
In her remarks, Bauchi First Lady, Mrs Aisha Mohammed, called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grant to enable them derive maximum benefits.
Mrs Mohammed lauded Federal Government’s efforts in introducing different empowerment programmes, thereby transforming the socio-economic lives of the people.
She said her office would continue to complement such efforts aimed at empowering women and youth.
The benefiting local governments are Gamawa, Alkaleri, Tafawa Balewa, Darazo, Bogoro, Dambam, Itas-Gadau and Zaki,
Others are Warji, Ningi, Katagum, Kirfi, Jama’are, Dass, Misau and Toro.
