Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has saluted the Nigerian youths protesting against police brutality and other ills.
The protesters have, in the past 13 days, been demanding the scrapping of the SARS police, while extending their demands to other areas.
Speaking at a programme at Freedom Park, Lagos at the weekend, Soyinka said if he were around in the country earlier, he would have been around a corner of the protest site to tell the youths that, finally, they had come of age.
He noted that what they were doing now indicated that they had been thinking things out and ‘The message is loud and clear.’
He expressed disgust at what he sees as the initial docility of the youth whom, he said, did ot relaise the enormity of their power.
He wondered while some people were impersonating others online to fake their voices.
According to him, everyone has a voice; all he or she needs is to use it.
He, however, noted that leadership was not a question of old or young.
According to him, there are old people are still active and productive while there are physically young folks who are senile within.
